A friend of mine is starting his business, a classic cars workshop and asked me to design is logo and website. So I’m having a lot of fun doing a trip back to the sixties to develop the image for this project. There is already a mock for the logo and a splash page that you can visit here: www.oldschoolgarage.com.pt

Turex a tourism company from Madeira hired me to design the logo and website of their new housing complex in Algarve with the name of “Quinta da Casinha”.

The logo utilizes the 3 most common colors that symbolize, sun, sea and country-side to appeal for the natural environment that surrounds the complex and to give the idea of summer holidays. Using a more classical font for the name adds a sense of style and quality to the concept.

The website is composed of a XML driven Flash interface with a photo gallery, a video player, google map and a news reel. Natural soft colors and a wooden header were used in the layout, once again to confer to the design the nature feel.

I got a really nice present for Christmas. After coming to an agreement with my girlfriend that this Christmas we wouldn’t spend money on any presents and that we would spend more time with family instead of shopping, she found a way of giving me something special by telling her mother what to get me for Christmas (cheater), a book called “Come to Finland“. Since I heard about it and seen some images early last year I wanted to at least give it a look.
“Off the beaten track” is a phrase that is in some of the posters and its meaning have to do with not traveling to the same old places and trying something different like Finland. After 8 months here I can say that Finland is different and worth visiting and Nature is not the only good thing here. This is one of the most beautiful books I ever had and I can assure you, a designer treasure.

“As you can see from the pictures, every poster was a labour of love - and early proof of the Finnish passion for graphical design. Furthermore, these posters documents the golden age of travelling.”

After a few months of development the website for the photographer Erik Reis is finished and it’s in testing stage. This website uses Flash technology to deliver an impressive portfolio in an interactive way.The goal was to build a website which was simple and clean with an intuitive navigation and easy to update. The content (specially the portfolio) should be the most significant aspect.

Some features I’d like to highlight:
- One interface for all the navigation
- Fully elastic resizable layout. Fits all resolutions no matter what
- Full-screen support
- Keyboard navigation support
- Help mode
- Browser history support
- Content and navigation produced via XML
You can see the website (content to be revised) here: www.erikreis.com

Since 2005 I wanted to update my site uxte.com. After dozens of versions of Flash portfolios and feeling frustrated with the final result I decided to give a it a go to WordPress. Don’t take me wrong, I love Flash, Flash is the reason I am into Design, but the problem is I am really hard to satisfy with, specially if I’m doing work for myself (some say I’m a perfectionist… go figure) and to be truthful WordPress it’s a hell of a tool after you learn about it.
So this is it, my first blog slash portfolio slash space slash whatever and here I will post my work… bla, bla, bla (read my header).
It’s still in Beta stage and can happen that some stuff doesn’t work properly yet, but like all good things it’s in constant development and one day (soon) I’ll post the final version and give it away as a nice WordPress theme, am I nice or what?
So feel free to comment, bash or spam on everything, I am here to reply.
Oh… I also did this with the intent of sharing my knowledge and experience in the design field. Did I mention knowledge and experience? So if you have some work for me or want to know a little bit more about my background and work, contact me on preis [at] uxte [dot] com (I always wanted to write my email like this) and I’ll get back to you ASAP.
