In the last few months I’ve been using social networking websites to get some visibility and therefore attract possible clients or work collaborations, this has worked quite well since I got some contacts that leaded to prospective jobs.

In the meanwhile I found the Behance Network which is a platform for sharing portfolios for creative professionals and I saw immediately the possibilities, not only I was showing my work I was showing it directly to my target, design agencies, studios and other creative professionals. Even though it is still in Beta version and it doesn’t have the traffic of other networking sites the Behance Network multiplies the opportunities of making profitable professional relationships.

I am now using it to post my works and in the process of updating my Flickr account at the same time so it will make my work more visible across the web.

I am very proud to announce that the website erikreis.com was picked  today by NewWebPick.com “because of the design and technology”.

New Web Pick is a worldwide renowned design magazine and it’s one of my favorite inspiration resource. There you can find everything from Graphic Design to Tatoo Art. If you don’t know it yet (which I don’t believe) hurry and download one of their free issues, if you fancy great design you should opt for the full issue for an (really) inexpensive price.

You can see the website featured here.

Faveup logo

Yesterday I got featured on Faveup with the website www.erikreis.com

Faveup is a Design Inspiration Gallery as they call themselves. Everyday the best designs in 4 categories, Logos, Business Cards, Flash Websites and CSS Websites are posted for the design community to get inspired.

You can go here and vote for the website if you like it.

WordPress based website with flash header for the classic car workshop Old School Garage.

This project was a lot of fun, creating this old school style grungy work, and besides having the chance to play a little bit more with WordPress (WP), I did a few experiences with Flash integration with WP and CSS, overlapping layers and positioning the backgrounds.

Girls rock

6 Comments | January 30th, 2008

A few days ago in a conversation with a fellow designer, about the roles in a design studio, he mentioned that he finds men more creative than girls… or women. In that moment I didn’t mention anything and even though I would like to think so being a man myself I have to point him wrong.

While the big majority of designers, or creative professionals, are from the male gender (reasons being so varied in their cause but mainly because of centuries of discrimination… but this is an all different subject), during the years I have met really creative minds and found about amazing work from female designers.

Hopeful not to sound chauvinist myself with this post, I leave here a few links to work of girls that rock in the creative field.

Networking black belt

I gave my first steps in the martial art of networking by introducing myself to Facebook. Since nowadays everybody seems to have a profile in there I thought this is the best way of really understanding what is all this about networking, sharing and web2.0.

I am by no means a layman in the Internet subject but, because of lack of time, I never joined any networking communities with the intuit of networking, my first was with Hi5 and just because all my friends were sending me invitations all the time.

While I am still to see the full potential of Facebook and other networking sites, my first impression is that people are more interested in following a fashion than really sharing. As a designer I find the interface of Facebook to cluttered, ugly and unintuitive but a lot better than mySpace, that’s for sure.

The good thing about Facebook is it’s power to connect people otherwise completely strangers. Meeting new people with the same interests and often sharing the same job, country or pet, open infinite possibilities. A collaboration, a job or a professional relationship is much easier this way.
